Divisions

Our programs are designed so that players of similar age and general skills play together, aiding in their development. As players progress through the divisions, additional skills are developed and play becomes more challenging and competitive.

Baseball

  • Tee Ball (League Age 5-6 / Tees & Coach Pitch)

This division is pure instructional baseball and is meant as an introduction to Little League. This is a non-competitive program open to boys and girls with little or no previous baseball experience required. Players will learn basic baseball fundamentals and techniques and are assigned to a team with a volunteer manager and coaches. Organized 4 inning games are played each Saturday, where every player bats and plays in the field each inning. Players bat from either a tee or by coach pitch. Scores, wins and losses are not kept.

  • AA (League Age 7-8 / Machine Pitch)

This division provides a developmental next step in learning the game of baseball, where batters hit off a pitching machine at 36mph and fielders play one of 10 defensive positions, including catcher. Games are 6 innings, using traditional 3 out rules with a limit of 5 runs per half inning. While coaches will track runs to ensure teams don't exceed the run limit, overall score, wins and losses are not kept. Before the spring season, all players will attend a workout to be evaluated on fundamental baseball skills such as hitting, throwing, catching, fielding and base running. These evaluations are used by the division commissioner and managers to select evenly balanced teams.

  • AAA (League Age 9-11 / Player Pitch)

This division furthers player development by introducing kid pitch (while strictly adhering to Little League pitch count rules) and base stealing. Games are 6 innings and use traditional 3 out rules, with balls and strikes being called by an umpire. For the first time in their baseball career, score is kept and wins/losses count. During the spring season, teams compete for playoffs and the AAA Championship. Before the spring season, all players will attend a workout to be evaluated on baseball skills such as hitting, throwing, catching, fielding and base running. These evaluations are used by the division commissioner and managers to select teams through a draft. Players in this division are also eligible to compete for a roster spot on the league's 10U all-star summer tournament team.

  • Majors Age 10-12

This division is our premier competitive program and introduces advanced concepts and strategies into play. Many players in this division have already developed basic skills and will have a good understanding of the game of baseball. The division will be comprised primarily of LA 11 and LA 12 players. Before the spring season, all players will attend a workout to be evaluated on baseball skills such as hitting, throwing, catching, fielding, and base running. These independent evaluations are used by the division commissioner and managers to select balanced teams through a draft. All League Age 12 players must be drafted to a Majors team; however, League Age 11 players may be eligible to play in Majors or AAA based on pre-season workout evaluations. During the spring season, teams compete for playoffs and the Majors Championship. Players in this division are also eligible to compete for a roster spot on the league's 10U, 11U, & 12U summer tournament all-star team, with the 12U team playing for the International Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

  • Juniors & Seniors (League Age 13-16 / Player Pitch)

This division takes baseball to the next level. Players aged 13-16 begin play on full size diamonds with 90ft bases and a 60ft pitching mound.

  • Challengers (Ages 5-18)

This division is an adaptive baseball program designed to support kids of all ages with physical, developmental, cognitive and/or social needs who may need help with batting, fielding, and general assistance around the bases.

Softball

  • Softball Single A (League Age 5-7 /Tees & Coach Pitch)

This division is primarily instructional softball and is meant as an introduction to Little League. This program is open to girls with little or no previous softball experience required. Players will learn basic softball fundamentals and techniques and are assigned to a team with a volunteer manager and coaches. Organized 4-inning games are played, where Players bat from a tee or by coach pitch. No standings for competitive purposes will be kept. Games will be played primarily on Capitol Hill but may also occur in partnership with other DC leagues.

  • AA Minors (League Age 7-9 / Machine & Coach Pitch)

At the AA level, coaches use either machine or coach pitch. Games are 6 innings and use traditional 3 out rules. Players are introduced to kid-pitch at practices and may integrate this into games the second half of the season. Before the spring season, all players will attend a workout to be evaluated on softball skills such as hitting, throwing, catching, fielding and base running. These evaluations are used by the league commissioner, coaches, and managers to select teams levels.

  • AAA Minors (League Age 9-11 / Kid Pitch)

At the AAA level, games are kid-pitch with coach pitch after 4 balls. Games move to walks after 4 balls midway through the season. Players are introduced to base stealing (3rd and home only) and sliding. Games are 6 innings and use traditional 3 out rules, with balls and strikes being called by an umpire. Before the spring season, all players will attend a workout to be evaluated on softball skills such as hitting, throwing, catching, fielding and base running. These evaluations are used by the league commissioner, coaches, and managers to select teams levels.

  • Majors (League Age 10+/Kid Pitch)

A preseason workout is held where all players are evaluated on basic skills such as hitting, throwing, catching, fielding, and running. We require all teams to have an equal number of players, made up of 12-14, through a draft of the division managers. We strive to have teams evenly balanced by skill, with an equal number of 11 & 12-year-olds spread across the division, but ultimately, players are selected by individual managers. There is no pre-arranged coaching staff, only an assigned manager. Aside from declaring conflicts for 1-2 practice nights, we don't allow for parent or coach requests. Games may be played on Saturday or Sunday in DC or Virginia. Players interested in summer all-star tournament teams must play a minimum of 8 games in season to be eligible for tournament team play. Please note that the softball in the majors division is larger than lower divisions – the softball has a circumference of 12 inches and a diameter of 3.8 inches.

  • Juniors (League Age 13+/Kid Pitch)

At the Juniors level, games are kid-pitch throughout the season, base stealing of all bases is allowed, and sliding is expected. Games are 6 innings and use traditional 3 out rules, with balls and strikes being called by an umpire. Before the spring season, all players will attend a workout to be evaluated on softball skills such as hitting, throwing, catching, fielding and base running. These evaluations are used by the league commissioner, and managers to select teams.

How We
Assemble Teams

Each division has a different process for determining rosters. Please review the details of how teams are assembled for the spring season. We build teams based on parents' information, specifically regarding practice night availability. Once rosters are announced, we may be unable to make changes and ask families to work with their assigned coach to make all practices and games.
