Placement Policies

Capitol Hill Little League Kid Pitch Baseball Division Placement Policies

CHLL follows a process to place players in our Majors and AAA Baseball Divisions. Sometimes, families ask us about their player joining a different division in baseball (e.g. a League Age 10 player moving to Majors baseball, or a League Age 11 player continuing in AAA baseball). Please see the policies for more information and Little League International for details about LA determination.

Majors Baseball Draft Policies:

  • The Majors Commissioner in consultation with the President and Player Agents will determine the number of teams per Majors Division and roster size.

  • Majors Division team rosters will each have an equal number of players.

  • All players who want to participate in the Majors Division must complete a CHLL sanctioned pre-season workout.

  • All LA 12 players must be drafted to a Majors team.

  • LA 11 players who score more than 20 points (out of 40) during the pre-season workout will be eligible for the Majors draft.

  • LA 11 players who score less than 16 points (out of 40) during the pre-season workout will be placed in the AAA.

  • If an LA 11 player scores 16 or more points but fewer than 20 points (out of 40) during the independent evaluation, Player Agents will contact their parent/guardian and make a determination whether the player should be eligible for the Majors draft.

  • LA 9 or LA 10 players are eligible to play in Majors but must have a workout score in the top 30 percent to qualify to be drafted.

  • Any player not selected during the draft will be placed in the AAA.

  • All LA 10 players on a CHLL summer tournament team who played the preceding Spring season in AAA can ask to be placed on a Majors team the following Fall CHLL season.

  • Any player regardless of age who played previously in Majors will be considered a returning player and placed in the first part of the Majors Plan B Redraft.

AAA Baseball Draft Policies:

  • All LA 9 and LA 10 players are eligible to play in the AAA Division.

  • All LA 9 and LA 10 players who want to play in the AAA Division must complete a CHLL sanctioned pre-season workout.

  • If an LA 11 player scores 16 or more points but fewer than 20 points (out of 40) during the independent evaluation, the Majors and AAA commissioners, Player Agents, and Board President will contact their parent/guardian and make a determination whether the player should be placed in the Majors or the AAA draft.

  • If an LA 11 player scores less than 16 points (out of 40) during the independent evaluation, they will be placed in AAA.

  • LA 8 players can qualify for the AAA draft through their pre-season workout score. To become eligible for the AAA draft, a LA 8 player must score in the top 30 percent of all AAA eligible players. If your son or daughter is LA 8 and is interested in playing in AAA please contact playeragent@chlldc.org.

NOTE : The CHLL Board may consider exceptional cases related to drafts.

As always, the CHLL President (president@chlldc.org) and Player Agents (playeragent@chlldc.org) are here to answer any questions you have.
